Extents is an introspective poem, of anxiety and achievement, part of Fred’s collection of poetry written during his time spent in Spain. Written sharply and earnestly, the “I” of the poem is the central anchor to the thousand spinning tops of dreams, one after another falling, breaking, as the “I” continues to keep the dwindling lot in velocity of motion, hoping to keep one going until the end. Contained within this longing and tension exists the fear that with the inevitable passing of time, all dreams shall fragment and splinter.
